12 Events to Jump Start the New Year – January Lil Rhody Round-Up

We don’t know about you, but we are ready for some foodie fun in the New Year! Our January Lil Rhody Round-Up includes cooking classes, Providence Restaurant week, foodie fundraisers, and some non-foodie (but still fun!) events. Jump into the New Year with an open mind and ready to eat!

Super Art Sunday: Raid the Archives
Sunday, January 5 from 11 am – 4 pm

Super Art Sunday: Raid the Archives at the RISD Museum is a day full of family-friendly experiences inspired by the exhibition, Raid the Icebox Now. Make art, explore the galleries, and have fun with friends and family over winter break. Super Art Sunday activities are free and designed for all ages to enjoy.

The RISD Museum is located at 20 N. Main Street in Providence, Rhode Island.

Pierogi Cooking Classes
January 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, and 28

There’s nothing like grandma’s humble pierogi’s but rest assure you can learn! Krakow Deli Bakery Smokehouse is hosting several classic Polish Pierogi Cooking Classes in the New Year. Tickets are $85 per person or $160 for two people. Tickets can be purchased in-store or over the phone.

Fermentation Classes
Wednesday, January 8, 22 and 29

Forty 1°North is hosting three, themed Fermentation Classes this January. Each class features five wine tastings with a special theme or wine from a particular region. Five small food tastings accompany each wine tasting. January’s themes and regions include Portugal, Loire Valley Reds, and Wines of Oregon. Reservations are required and classes often sell out, so be sure to plan ahead.

Stoneacre Sushi
Wednesday, January 8 and every Wednesday in January

Our Newport food tour partner, Stoneacre Brasserie, is bringing back fan-favorite Sushi Nights every Wednesday in January. The festivities are one-month only, so mark your calendars or make reservations ahead of time. They will be serving up sushi rolls, nigiri, and other Japanese-inspired dishes.

Stoneacre Brasserie is located at 28 Washington Square in Newport, Rhode Island.

Providence Winter Restaurant Week
Sunday, January 12 – Saturday, January 25

It’s baaack – Providence Restaurant Week returns this month and our taste buds are ready. Nearly 100 local restaurants are participating. Three-course lunches start are $16.95 and three-course dinners start at $29.95. Some restaurants are offering two-for-one specials.

Our Downcity Providence Food Tour partners Gracie’s, Ellie’s, and Sarto, are participating in Providence Winter Restaurant Week with dinner specials. Check them out for a real dinner treat.

The Night Cruller
Saturday, January 18 from 5 pm – 9 pm

Our Providence food tour partner, Knead Doughnuts, is bringing back their summertime smash, The Night Cruller. They will be serving up hot, fresh, made-to-order doughnuts at their production bakery. The menu is limited for this one-night-only treat in January.

The Night Cruller will be at Knead Doughnuts’ production bakery, 55 Cromwell Street in Providence, Rhode Island.

Newport Wellness Week
Saturday, January 18 – Saturday, January 25

Start 2020 off with a little wellness. During Newport Wellness Week, some of the area’s gyms, restaurants, and shops will be offering special deals and experiences. Whether you’re looking to relax, learn something new or get into a new habit, there’s something for everyone during wellness week.

Hotel Week RI
Saturday, January 18 – Friday, January 31

2020 is sure to bring plenty of new events and traditions, including Rhode Island’s very first Hotel Week. Take advantage of amazing savings at new, historic, and distinguished hotels across the state. Hotel Week RI features flat rates of $100, $200, $300 and $400 per night at hotels that usually charge upwards of $500 per night. Seriously, it doesn’t get any better than this! Meet Your Maker – What the Health!?
Sunday, January 19 from 10 am – 2 pm

Meet and mingle with some of Rhode Island’s new and exciting food companies. Explore and taste an abundance of well-made, yummy goods like freshly roasted coffee, prepared foods, sweet treats, specialty products, and more. After you check out the food market, take a tour of the building, learn what a “food business incubator” is, and head to the demonstration kitchen for hands-on activities, tastings, and nutrition advice.

Most importantly, come hungry because brunch and lunch will be served! Food trucks and chefs will be cooking throughout the event.

Hope & Main is located at 691 Main Street in Warren, Rhode Island.

Tasting for Tails
Saturday, January 25 from 5 pm – 8 pm

Formerly known as Taste of the East Bay, Hope & Main is hosting this foodie fundraiser for the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (RISPCA). Tasting for Tails will feature tasting tables from some of the best culinary establishments in the state, including Bristol Oyster Bar, Crepelicious, Rhody Roots, Thames Waterside Bar & Grille, Blount Seafood, and many more. Each tasting table will be expertly paired with a wine, spirit, or craft beer.

All of the proceeds benefit the RISPCA. Tickets for the main tasting are $35 and are available here.

8th Annual Spectacular Cookie Smackdown
Sunday, January 26 from 1 pm – 3 pm

Rhode Island’s bakers are competing for the title of Very Best Cookie in Rhode Island. Personally, we’re competing for who can eat the most cookies. The Spectacular Cookie Smackdown always sells out, so get your tickets soon!

Tickets are $25 and include all the cookies you can eat and all the Yacht Club Soda, New Harvest Coffee, and milk you can drink. Purchase your tickets here.

The Spectacular Cookie Smackdown will be hosted at the Waterfire Arts Center, 475 Valley Street in Providence.

Pasta Making Class & Dinner
Sunday, January 26 from 4 pm – 6 pm

Our Providence food tour partner, Sarto Restaurant, is hosting this hands-on Pasta Making Class & Dinner. Definitely don’t snooze on this one! Learn how pasta is made with a demo from the excellent Chef Oliver Williams. Afterward, enjoy a family-style dinner with expert wine pairings.

Tickets are $150 and available for purchase here. The event is limited to 12 participants, so it is sure to sell out. Ticket price includes tax and gratuity. Complimentary valet parking will be available.
