Yoleni’s – One Local Eatery, One Week at a Time

This is our second week featuring one local, Rhode Island eatery each week. We will share each eatery’s background and a little bit about the owners and operators. Most importantly, we will be sharing a link to purchase their gift cards. If you are able to support local eateries at this time, we encourage you to purchase their gift cards online and/or order takeout.

This is a very difficult time for the restaurant industry and we are seeing many of our restaurant partners and friends struggle to keep their businesses. By featuring one local eatery each week, we hope to support and uplift some of our partners and friends. No matter where you live, local eateries bring so much life and light to our communities.

Welcome to Yoleni’s

Neighborhood: Providence

Yoleni’s offers authentic Greek food to residents in and around the Providence area. They feature more than 20 traditional Greek recipes in their sit-down restaurant and a wide selection of Greek wine. You can order in house-made pita, Greek yogurt, sandwiches, salads, fruits, and more from their pick-up counter. We highly recommend grabbing a jar (or two) of authentic Greek honey from their marketplace! Their marketplace is well stocked with authentic Greek goods, including olive oils, desserts and nuts.

Co-owners Alexander Philippides and Alexandra Georgiou opened the Providence Yoleni’s brick-and-mortar in May of 2018. The Providence restaurant and marketplace is the first in the United States. Yoleni’s began as a small, specialty Greek online shop and grew to their first brick-and-mortar in Athens, Greece where the family lived and worked.

Why Rhode Island? Alexandra was born and raised in nearby Newport. Up until the opening of the Providence location, Alexandra and her family split their time between Greece, Dubai and New Mexico. They settled down in Rhode Island when Yoleni’s Providence opened and they’ve been here ever since! Alexandra, Alexander and their sons run the Providence store and are very hands-on. Alexandra and Alexander are even known to make an appearance or two on our Providence food tours!

Support Yoleni’s by buying their gift certificates or shopping from their online marketplace! They are offering takeout and have just introduced a #Fresh4UBox produce box during COVID19. Follow them on Instagram for more info and subscribe to their newsletters here.

Here are two items from the Yoleni’s food and drink menu we love:

Greek “Meze” Platter
a daily selection of Yoleni’s best savory snacks, including veggies, cheeses, dips, pita bread and more

Yoleni’s Greek Cellar Wine Selections
Yoleni’s has an excellent selection of red and white Greek wine, as well as some rosé. We think we’ll be taking a bottle of some of their finest!
