March 1, 2018

March starts the countdown to warm weather in Rhode Island. There’s nothing more exciting than the promise of spring. While we endure the last few weeks of winter, there are plenty of fun events to enjoy this month.

Newport Irish Heritage Month Various events in Newport area during March

Irish pride runs deep in Newport. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day on March 17, there are “Irish-themed” events every day this month. The Museum of Newport Irish History put together a list of “All Things Irish” going on in Newport this month.

Highlights include, of course, the 62nd Annual Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 17. The parade starts promptly at 11 am at the steps of City Hall on Broadway. This year’s parade is two-hours of Irish pride. There will be pipe bands, marching bands, fire & drum corps, clown units, reenactments, and community groups. Everyone’s Irish in Newport on parade day!

If you’re in town, check out Traditional Irish Music Sessions every Sunday, 6 pm – 9 pm at Fastnet Pub. On Saturday, March 10, get a taste of authentic Irish food (and whiskey!) Chefs from Newport’s sister city Kinsale, Ireland will join local chefs for a food tasting. Tickets are $30 and more information can be found here.

Note: candles are not allowed.

This is a free and family-friendly event. Jamestown Art Center is located at 18 Valley Street in Jamestown, Rhode Island.

More than 50 restaurants are participating in this month’s Newport Restaurant Week. If you’ve been wanting to try something new, now is the time! Enjoy three-course prixe fix lunches for $16 and dinners for $35*.
