This is our sixth week featuring one local, Rhode Island eatery. We will share the background of each and a little bit about the owners and operators. Most importantly, we will be sharing a link to purchase their gift cards. If you are able to support these small local businesses at this time, we encourage you to purchase their gift cards online, support their fundraisers and/or order takeout or delivery.
This is a particularly difficult time for both the tourism and restaurant industry, we are seeing many of our restaurant partners and friends in these industries struggle to keep their businesses. By featuring one local eatery each week, we hope to support and uplift some of our partners and friends. No matter where you live, local eateries bring so much vibrancy to our communities.
Welcome to Dune Brothers Seafood
A unconventional spin on the old school fish shacks, Dune Brothers Seafood truck sits in an unlikely city lot in an urban garden setting with picnic tables strewn about. It is the brainchild of two long time friends who share the same passion for the food and culture of where they grew up in coastal New England. Owners Jason Hegedus and Nicholas Gillespie first thought of the concept while living in Portland, Oregon and reminiscing about the fish shacks that they would visit as children. After sharing memories about their childhoods spent on the beaches of Cape Cod and southern RI, Jason and Nicholas teamed up for a series of successful pop-up dinners featuring reimagined fish shack favorites. They quickly fell in love with the concept and knew that they had to share it with the public. The two decided to move back East and bring their ideas home to a place they are both passionate about. Combining years of kitchen experience and knowledge from renowned restaurants in Boston, New York, and Portland, OR, Dune Brothers brings a chef-driven, dock-to-dish focused on a traceable approach to their seafood and ingredients from Rhode Island. Dune Brothers sources from the water and earth of New England, forging relationships with fishermen and farmers that are equally passionate about our coast. The goal is to create a stable market relationship between fishermen, chefs and consumers by creating awareness of our local fisheries with our food and the interactions at our tables. Check out their sample menu, which changes daily!
At the start of the Coronavirus, Dune Brothers was closed for the season. They recently opened up for takeout Wednesday – Sunday, 11 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Hot tip: they frequently sell out, so the sooner you order, the better! Phone in orders at (401) 480-1269.
Here are two items we love from the Dune Brothers Seafood menu:
Clam Cakes RI quahogs, herbs, lemon zest
New England Style Chowder RI little necks, salt pork, potato herbs
Honestly, their lobster sandwiches and bait boxes are pretty amazing too!
