Celebrate the Holidays with a Seasonal Margarita from Perro Salado

Every hour is happy hour at Perro Salado in Newport, RI. Perro Salado offers a menu with a variety of locally inspired Mexican dishes and delicious cocktails. The atmosphere is welcoming with cozy fires burning in every room in winter.Which explains why it is a locals favorite in the off-season. It is perfect for Friday date night, dinner with friends or birthday and anniversary celebrations. Don’t limit yourself to intimate dinners though, I would also suggest, you take that small holiday work party and add some life to it by reserving a room by the fire. While you’re at it, plan on more than a few of those famous margarita pitchers they are so well known for, and if you have some game left in you, I dare you to go for the Cilantro Jalapeno Margarita, it will knock those knee highs down a few notches!!,

Perro Salado’s co-owner, Andi, has long been known for her mixology, long before the term “mixologist” became so hip. Using organic ingredients in her elixirs  that create balanced and creative libations that leave you wishing you had a pitcher…oh wait they do have pitchers!! Check out their cocktail and margarita menu!

Perro Salado is one of the stops on the Newport Neighborhood Food Tour.  Guests sample Sticky Pork Ribs or various vegetarian substitutions and sip on Blood Orange Margaritas. This year’s tour season is over, but we haven’t stopped visiting Perro Salado.

Last Friday night, we stopped in for some dinner and drinks. The restaurant was decked out for the holidays. We started off with the avocado fries and Red Sangria. To mix things up a bit, we ordered the fish tacos and veggie quesadilla. Everything was deliciously, outstanding, as always!

There was something new, though… Perro Salado added a holiday cocktail to the menu – the Cranberry Margarita! Unfortunately for us, they ran out of the popular holiday special just before we ordered. Lucky for you, they gave us the recipe!

Perro Salado’s Cranberry Margarita combines the classic holiday flavor with the timeless margarita. It’s a great addition to any holiday party or for anytime, really. After all, who doesn’t love a good salty margarita?

Perro Salado’s Cranberry Margarita Recipe

1 1/2 oz silver tequila 3/4 oz triple sec 3/4 oz fresh lime juice 1/4 fresh sour*(see below) 1/2 oz fresh cranberry puree*(see below)

Combine all in 12oz glass over ice, shake and serve with salted rim if desired.

*fresh sour* combine 1 cup simple syrup with 1 cup fresh lemon juice

*cranberry puree* will keep up to 7 days or freeze, makes approx. 36 oz.

16oz fresh cranberry juice 1 cup orange juice 1 cup water 1 cup sugar Zest of 1 orange

In medium sauce pot bring water, orange juice and sugar to a boil. Add cranberries and bring back to a boil. Reduce heat and cook for 10 minutes. Let cool and puree in blender.
