Happy August! The days are longer, the weather is warmer, and the fun is just getting started. We’ve rounded up 17 fun events to help you savor the rest of your summer in Rhode Island. The new school year will be here before we know it. With that in mind, add some of these fun events to your summer bucket list!

Providence, Rhode Island
Monday, July 30 – Saturday, August 4

FringePVD is a yearly artists festival. This year’s event is July 30 – August 4. Musicians, actors, dancers, and artists perform their own shows. The idea is to present fun, fearless and affordable theater to the community. FringePVD is expecting over 300 individual shows for this year’s festival. Go with an open mind and be ready to have lots of fun! Tickets for all performances are available at the door for $5-$15. For a list of performances, click here.

NewportFILM Outdoors
Aquidneck Island, Rhode Island
Every Thursday night at 6 pm

There’s just something about watching a movie outside during the summer. It’s such a magical, fun experience! newportFILM Outdoors is every Thursday night. Every Thursday features a different film and showcases a beautiful outdoor space on Aquidneck Island. Experience award-winning documentaries, live music, interviews, and some great food vendors. Even better, newportFILM Outdoors is free! If it rains, the movies will be shown indoors.

Antiques Festival and Classic Auto Show
Little Compton, Rhode Island
Saturday, August 4 from 10 am – 4 pm

The more antiques, the better! Find your new favorite treasure at the Antiques Festival, featuring 25 antiques dealers from around New England. Grab a snack an then head over to the Classic Car Show to admire dozens of vintage vehicles. Vote for your favorite vehicle and stick around for the award ceremony. Make some time for The Little Compton Historical Society’s new exhibit, “Remember Me: A Guide to Little Compton’s 46 Historic Cemeteries.”

Tickets to the Antiques Festival and Classic Auto Show are $10 and will be available at the event.

The Antiques Festival and Classic Auto Show are on the grounds of the Little Compton Historical Society, located at 548 West Main Road in Little Compton, Rhode Island.

Warren Folks Festival
Warren, Rhode Island 
Sunday, August 5 from 12 pm – 8 pm

Warren Folks Festival is a free and fun event with music, food, and art. This year’s festival features music from Haunt the House, Roots Government, Bernard John, The Low Cards, and The Quahogs. The festival is adding a second stage this year, featuring bands from 75orless Music. For the food portion of the festival, chow down on bites from Eli’s Kitchen, The Original Balascos Pizza, and more! After filling your belly (and ears), check out the live art festival from artists around Rhode Island and beyond.

Augtoberfest 2018
Pawtucket, Rhode Island
Saturday, August 11 from 3 pm – 7 pm

Foolproof Brewing Company’s Annual Augtoberfest is Saturday, August 11. Augtoberfest is not only fun to say, it’s super fun to attend! There are food trucks, live music, an inflated slip & slide, games, and (of course!) beer. There are a variety of tickets still available, including at $15 designated driver ticket. Augtoberfest is strictly 21+.

Dog-lovers only! Pawchella at The Guild is a fundraiser for Vintage Pet Rescue, a senior dog retirement home in Rhode Island. Check out their Instagram for super cute photos! Pawchella has an awesome lineup of dog and human-friendly activities, including yoga with your dog, an ask the trainer booth, pet-themed art and gifts, professional photographs, and more!

Moonrose Farm Pickle Class
Cranston, Rhode Island
Sunday, August 12 from 2 pm – 4 pm

Take a summer field trip to Moonrose Farm, a chemical-free vegetable farm in Cranston. Owners Melissa Denmark (Ellie’s Bakery and Gracie’s Executive Pastry Chef) and her wife Jordan Goldsmith, will lead you on a tour of their farm. Learn about their growing practices and harvest vegetables from their fields. Then, head back to Ellie’s Bakery where you will learn how to prepare pickles and preserve your summer veggies.

Schoolyard Twilight Party
Warren, Rhode Island
Sunday, August 12 from 5 pm – dark

The Schoolyard Twilight Party is Hope & Main‘s BIG summer fundraiser. It’s a win-win for foodies – you get to eat great food and support the local food businesses working out of this great community food incubator! There will be small bites, a raw bar, specialty cocktails, beer and wine, live music, raffles, and more. Be sure to show up hungry – local chefs are teaming up for a special menu. Go where your stomach leads you – stroll and taste from more than 20 different food stations.

The Washington County Fair
Richmond, Rhode Island
Wednesday, August 15 – Sunday, August 19

Nothing says summer more than “county fair.” The Washington County Fair has all of the classic events, including 4-H, arts & crafts, rides, pull divisions, country music, and much more. There is plenty to keep the whole family busy! Find the full list of events and schedule here. Admission to the fair is $11 for adults. Children under age 10 are free.

A Weekend of Coaching
Newport, Rhode Island
Thursday, August 16 – Sunday, August 19

Head to Newport for a uniquely fun event. Authentic 19th-century coaches are drawn and marked by highly trained teams of horses. The teams visit Newport every three years, so catch them this year! Enjoy a free viewing of the coaches every day as they drive through the streets of Newport and the grounds of the Newport Mansions. The daily parade routes will be available here. In addition to the parade routes, there will be a free demonstration at The Elms on Saturday, August 18 at 10 am.

H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival

H.P. Lovecraft is a Rhode Island celebrity. His grave is a popular tourist attraction, despite the macabre. The H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival celebrates his work through cinematic adaptions by professional and independent filmmakers. The festival also features book signings, author readings, panel discussions, musical performances, and more special events. Find the full schedule and more details here.

AS220 Foo Fest 2018
Providence, Rhode Island
Saturday, August 18 at 1 pm

AS220 Foo Fest is an annual block party that people of all ages look forward to every year. Foo Fest is 12 hours of art, performances, food and drink, and family-friendly activities. Foo Fest puts Providence’s art scene on full display. The musical lineup is stacked with performers that cross different musical genres. All ages activities include interactive performances and demos. Food vendors serve up tacos, vegan ice cream, grilled cheese, and much more.

Filipino Pop-Up Dinner

Monday, August 20 from 6:30 pm – 9 pm

Take a trip to the Philippines and the South Pacific at the Filipino Pop-Up Dinner at Stoneacre Tapas. Their 12-course tasting menu will whisk you away. If you can’t make it to this month’s pop-up, stay tuned for next month’s pop-up dinner.

Brew at the Zoo

Get a boozy, behind-the-scenes look at Roger Williams Park Zoo. Brew at the Zoo is an adults-only evening with live music, animal encounters, and beer samples from more than 80 brewers. WaterFire season is in winding down for the fall. There are only a few more full lightings scheduled before the end of their 2018 season. The current schedule is available here.

If you have yet to experience, WaterFire, put it at the top of your summer bucket list, come in the afternoon for a food tour, take a late afternoon boat tour then sit and soak in the unique experience. Between the music and the magical atmosphere, it’s something you’ll never forget.

New England Quahog Festival + Sea Creature Parade
North Kingstown, Rhode Island
Sunday, August 26 from 12 pm – 6 pm

The New England Quahog Festival and Sea Creature Parade are in its third year and it is going to be more fun than ever before! Kickoff begins with a costume parade through Wickford and ends at North Kingstown Town Beach with food trucks, live music, and family-friendly fun. There will also be a beer garden, mermaid dunk tank, kayak races, crab races, and mermaid photo shoots on the beach. Perfect for ocean-loving kids! All money raised from the day’s events will go toward renovations to the town beach playground.

The festivities will throughout North Kingstown, but are focused on the beach at One Beach Street in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.

Sucrée: Under the Full Moon
Smithfield, Rhode Island
Sunday, August 26 at 5 pm

August’s Sucrée is ramping up to be the sweetest event yet. The event will bring together three of the East Coast’s most innovative and exciting pastry chefs: Michelle Chen of Patisserie Chanson in New York, Brian Mercury of Boston’s Oak + Rowan, and Melissa Denmark of Gracie’s and Ellie’s Bakery in Providence.

Throughout the event, each pastry chef will present their signature dessert course, along with savory hors d’oeurves at cocktail hour. “The evening’s garden party-themed menu will focus on the best of New England’s seasonal bounty harvested under the August “Grain Moon,” drawing inspiration from the fresh herbs, flowers, and fruits that define summer in Rhode Island.”
