Ahhh, September. We can practically feel fall in the air. New England weather can be unpredictable, but we are feeling confident that fall is just right around the corner. As you read through our Lil Rhody Round-Up, you’ll notice that it seems September is the month of the festival. From seafood to music to art, Rhode Island is in festival mode. We’ll be adding them all to our fall bucket list and we hope you will too. Happy almost-fall!

Burger Night and Beer Tasting (21+)
Moonrose Farm, Cranston, Rhode Island
Sunday, September 2 from 4 pm – 8 pm

If you don’t already have plans for Sunday night, now you do. Moonrose Farm is hosting a burger and beer tasting night, serving up Blackbird Farm beef burgers prepared with fresh-from-the-farm ingredients and local beers. Sommelier Derek Jakoboski will walk you through the beer fermentation process while you sip on local brews.

Dinner includes a beef burger or vegetarian grilled sandwich with various side dishes and snacks, followed by dessert. Tickets are $60 and include the price of dinner. Tickets are sure to sell out before Sunday, so buy yours here.

Trivia Night
The Malted Barley Providence
Every Monday in September from 7 pm-midnight

Get your friends together for some friendly competition. Our Downcity Providence Food Tour partner, The Malted Barley, is hosting trivia nights every Monday night. Prizes and giveaways will be a-plenty, so study up ahead of time.

Be sure to show up hungry (and thirsty.) The Malted Barley has a wide selection of craft beer and baked-to-order pretzels. Yum!

Donuts and Ice Cream Pop-Up

Our mouths are watering in anticipation. The Donuts and Ice Cream Pop-Up is going to be ah-mazing. Our Downcity Providence Food Tour partner, Knead Doughnuts, is teaming up with Wright’s Dairy Farm to create featured donut sundaes. Choose from six flavors of Wright’s Dairy Farm ice cream and pair it up with a Knead donut. We couldn’t have dreamt up a yummier pairing.

The Pop-Up will be at Knead Doughnuts’ location at 135 Elmgrove Ave in Providence, Rhode Island.

Rhode Island Seafood Festival

Rhode Island and seafood go together like donuts and ice cream (*see above to understand the reference.) The Rhode Island Seafood Festival features some of the best seafood restaurants in RI, local music, a beer tent, and more. The event is dog-friendly, so bring your well-behaved furry friend along.

Slater Park Fall Festival
Pawtucket, Rhode Island
Saturday, September 8 & Sunday, September 9

Fall in Rhode Island is the perfect festival weather. Celebrate the start of fall at the 20th Annual Slater Park Fall Festival. The festival features food trucks, a pop-up skate park, a collaborative art project, an open-air market, and music performances. The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing that Saturday night, followed by fireworks. Definitely, plan on staying for the Pops in the park.

Attendance is free, but a donation of $1 is suggested. This is another dog-friendly event, so the whole family can enjoy the Slater Park Fall Festival. Slater Memorial Park is located at 426 Newport Avenue in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

History and Herb Hike
Casey Farm, Saunderstown, Rhode Island
Saturday, September 8 at 1 pm

Walk Casey Farm’s wooded trails, lined with a wide variety of herbs. Professional herbalist, Kristin Minto, will accompany you on the walk, pointing out the farm’s many herbs and their benefits. She will also share the farm’s history, from the seventeenth century to today. You will even get to take home herbs to sample and enjoy. After the hike, stay for a tour of the historic farmhouse.

WaterFire season is winding down for the fall. There are only a few more full lightings scheduled before the end of their 2018 season. The current schedule is available here.

Art After Dark

Thursday, September 13 from 5 pm – 9 pm

Art After Dark at the Newport Art Museum is going to be extra special this month. In addition to a guided mini-tour of the museum, there will be an inflatable lawn party. The inflatable lawn party is part of Pneuhaus’ new series giant inflatables, “Solid Bodies.” After bouncing around, take a tour of the museum and stay for the Pneuhaus presentation on the lawn.

Art After Dark is a free event at the Newport Art Museum, which is located at 76 Bellevue Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island.

The Rhode Island Music & Art Festival features live music, artists, local food, and beverages. We’re excited to attend the inaugural festival, which celebrates everything that makes Providence the Creative Capital. Misquamicut Fall Fest

Another weekend, another fall festival. Misquamicut Fall Fest features amusement rides, a classic car show, crafts, food trucks, and more. There is a full schedule of entertainment and performers. The list can be found here.

Garlic for Days: Tasting, Growing, and Harvesting

Garlic is a foodie’s best friend. Learn all about tasting, growing, and harvest garlic from Radia Herbs. You’ll get to taste different varieties of garlic and learn about their culinary and medicinal qualities. You will also learn how to grow garlic and about it’s growing cycle up to harvest time. Museum Day Live!
Audobon Society, Bristol, Rhode Island
Saturday, September 22 from 10 am – 4 pm

The Audobon Society is participating in the Smithsonian Museum Day Live!, opening their doors free of charge on Saturday, September 22. You can download your ticket here, which will grant you free access to the Audobon Nature Center on September 22. One ticket is permitted for two people, per household/e-mail address. There will be several special programs on Museum Day Live!, including coastal cleanup, STEAM craft table, animal interviews, and more.
